LF:
Good Monday morning, everybody. I hope you’re as excited as I am! Today is such a special day.
JW:
Excuse me, Lori. Really? I mean like what makes this day so special?
LF:
Oh, come on, Jimmy. I’m spending time cohosting with you after a month long sabbatical. So tell us inquiring minds, how did it go?
JW:
Well, I can only describe with a few adjectives of which I’d like to share this morning. Fantastic. Enthusiastic learning. Let’s see. What else? Adventures. Ms. Williams was so proud to see finally, come to an end. I dragged her upon museum to museum to museum. By the way, I need to tell you I’m kind of a book junkie as you know, by my library. And so I go into love these presidential libraries. So I went all the way to Springfield, Illinois, with my bride. We had the best time. Well I did, but you know, it’s a plural program. So no good thing. I gotta tell you. I saw things that inspired me so greatly that I hope it comes out today and what you and I are gonna share with our listeners, Abraham Lincoln. My favorite, as I’ve said on this show before favorite historical president, the 16th president of our great country had the very, very limited resources of education was born in a log cabin.
JW:
You know, the old, the whole thing coming outta the Hills. Right. But he was so wise. And if you read his writings, I got to see handwritten letters from his own pen. Of course, they’re all vacuum sealed. You can’t touch ’em or anything, but I got to see them read ’em and I gotta tell you his penmanship about like Jimmy Williams, a little hard to read. So that’s why he shouldn’t have dictated, but oh, they didn’t have that though. Did they back? But anyway, you know, I got to see some things that his home I touched and I said this on the podcast episode last week, I touched the same handrail, Lori, if you, that he touched many times going to the second floor of his home on eighth street there in Springfield. I hadn’t washed my hand since… Anyway.
LF:
No washing of hands.
JW:
Ms. Williams said, oh no, she sprayed me with all that good hand sanitizer as I got in the car. But no, we had a great time. So what’d you do when I was gone?
LF:
Well, we did some podcasts while you were gone. We kept our listeners motivated. Hopefully everybody enjoyed that. I took a crack at it. Ashley took a crack at it and we we’re by no means ready to take on the world by ourselves. But we, you know, we tried to do our best in your absence. It it’s hard when you’re not with us.
JW:
I did receive termination letters from both Ashley and you that I’m terminated from this podcast, but I refuse to open them and receive service from the delivery person. So, you’re stuck with me.
LF:
Yeah, that’s fine. We’ll take it. We’ll take it. Yeah.
JW:
Well, during my time in sabbatical, you know, I had this time to reflect Lori and I had this time to sit back and really look, where am I on my year 2022 goals that I set way back? Well, actually before January, but they started January one of this year. And I have to say, you know, we’ve talked in the past in the last couple years about the disruption in the world and all this stuff and how some of our goals may have had to be a little bit changed in terms of not the final outcome, but how we got there. And so I was looking at the status of them and I said, you know, gosh, there’s about two or three of them. I hadn’t even started. Hadn’t had time to even look at or made time. And so that’s why I was saying the story about Abraham Lincoln. I got so inspired that on the way home, while Ms. William slept for the eight hours that I drove.
LF:
She was exhaused!
JW:
We did not fly this time. And, and I, cuz we wanted to see some countryside and we stopped and saw a lot of things as we were traveling there and back. But, but the funny thing is I’d be talking away to her and I’d look over there. And she’s like in the fetal position, you know, curl up the ball over there with the blanket. And I’m like, anyway, so, so I got inspired and I thought, you know, there’s gotta be a way that we can help our listeners and subscribers shortcut some of this process of achieving their goals, but still have the full effect of what it means to accomplish that great task they set in January. So with that said, you know, self-care is important. I got that done in the last 31 days had a blast, but you know, your mind deserves some positive, powerful information. So we can equip you with greater knowledge to build that bigger future. And Lori and I are gonna share a very simple method with you today. Take away Lori.
LF:
Okay. So that’s a great segue into this method and we’re gonna talk about it on today’s episode, many of us have looked at the calendar and then reviewed our goals for 2022. And like Jimmy said, only to realize the number of days on the calendar are getting fewer and fewer. Can you believe it? It’s already September. Wow, crazy.
JW:
I need to get my Christmas list to everyone. Remind me, Lori. I’ll get my Christmas list out.
LF:
Okay. Okay. Well, if, if you’re on, if you’re not on the naughty list…
JW:
Please not again this year. Okay.
LF:
Future episode, everybody and I, our powerful approach to reigniting the in your soul that caused you to develop those goals for 2022 and accomplish them in the short four months remaining in the year, we call this method of achievement, the ABC process. And while that sounds simplistic, we’re going back to the basics and you can’t get much simpler than that, Jimmy, right?
JW:
Yeah. Lori let me introduce the first step of this process for our audience. First of all, Lori’s got the first letter. Okay. Now go Lori. I’ve been on vacation, Lori.
LF:
We gotta get you back into the groove of this. A is for the first of the alphabet. And we all know that that is the first letter, but we’re gonna say that a is for abundance. So to think big you’ve gotta create big and to accomplish your big, hairy, audacious goals. Yes. I just quoted Jimmy Williams. You have to think live and breathe abundance each day before you start your first task, look at your goals for the year and pick one. You can devote time and resources to moving closer to accomplish purposely create a mindset of abundance in your thinking, your emotions, your actions, your feelings, your resources, all acts aspects of life will improve when you improve yourself. So people like Thomas Edison treated each day as an opportunity to grow, not just intellectually, but financially you can do the same. It is truly a matter of wishing yourself to success. By thinking beyond your current capability, you gotta continue to think outside the box, the triangle, the circle, whatever shape your mindsets in. We are shaped busting this morning.
JW:
I’m a little bit of a trapezoid right now, but anyway, go ahead.
LF:
Don’t sides that has I’m do the same. So, you know, love quote, I’m a big quote person. So to quote Eleanor Roosevelt in sticking with Jimmy’s presidential theme this morning, but it’s a statement of empowerment to quote Eleanor Roosevelt, do something every day. That scares you. We’ve talked about that before. Yeah. It’s a great sentiment. And it’s so true. And, and what a profound statement that was made so many years ago that we’re still going back to now it’s still relevant. It’s still very, very much should be in the forefront of your mind. And it can be something like if you’re me, okay, it’s the end of summer. And I have done one thing every day that has scared me in the last several days. And that is the walkway to my office has been overtaken by the grasshoppers. I don’t know what is happening. I’m afraid it’s the locust plague or the plague of the locus. But me walking through grasshoppers and like, it scares me to death because they jump and they fall and they land on you and it’s creepy. And I dunno, but that’s my one thing lately that I’m doing that scares me and it sound trivial, but it’s important.
JW:
I’m to blame for that. Let explain a little bit further. The locust situation that we see is going crazy. Like we were on our way to church. We go to church at a small little country community next to our city here. And we get outta the car and I mean, they are all over the car immediately. As soon as they come outta that grass. And just here they are. And I, I want to take full responsibility for that, for those of us list those of our listeners out there, because it is my fault. Our business had such a great year in 20, 20 and 2021 during the pandemic, I made the mistake of saying, Hmm, if a pandemic can do this, maybe we should go old Testament and bring in the plagues, you know, like the locus and all that stuff that might have been me.
LF:
Jimmy! I hate the jumpy things!
JW:
I’ll be honest with you. I’d like to think that the good Lord listens to me that closely and gives me everything I ask, but that may not be fully my fault, but I think I may owe for some of that. So, so abundance, Lori, I gotta be honest with you. You know, I’m a big guy on abundance. I get really, really tired of this scarcity thinking a lot of people have to go, well, I just can’t because, and I, and I just can’t because I never have. And I just can’t because of this, you know, I gotta be honest with you. That mindset has got to go away if you’re gonna only accomplish those most important BHAGs between now and December 31. Right? So we’re gonna think big, we’re gonna create big. We’re gonna act big and we’re gonna give big, you see how I did that?
JW:
So the best way to grow is to give it away and get it back. Right? So abundance is our first one. And, and just hearing, you know, to be very frankly, Lori, speak on abundance, kind of jazz me up folks, and I’m not talking caffeine, jazz. I’m talking about natural Jimmy dopamine producing jazz here. Okay. And I’m ready to go on and tackle the day at this point. However, let me just finish the episode. And then Lori won’t really fire me from the podcast I hope.. So the next letter in this ABC method, you guessed it. Lori’s a second letter of the alphabet B right? And the B in this message method stands for being so taking action in all phases of the day, be present when you’re with someone to devote your complete attention to the conversation, be proactive in moving forward on your goal by taking action on just that next step.
JW:
Don’t look to December 31. Look to, “Hey, what can Tuesday bring?” Right? “What can Wednesday bring?” Be creative in finding solutions to the challenges you face and hold you back from accomplishing your goal. You can do this. It’s just a mindset. Be responsive to those who are helping you achieve your goals. Now, lemme explain what that means. Lori. You probably thought, Hey, you know, Jimmy just got it all together. And he does all these great things by himself. Cuz you know, that’s just the kind of person he is and that would be wrong. I have Lori F in my life. I have Ashley Steves. I have Leah Lewis’s. I have Amy cottons. I’ve got everybody, I’ve got a whole crew of people that help us accomplish some of our more corporate goals. Right. And we all have a role to play because I’ll be very Frank with it.
JW:
And I’m going on record here. This is a broadcasting 58 countries. Folks. I’m not really the one that comes up with all the ideas, just the great ones. But anyway. Oh no, that came out wrong. That came out wrong. But, but my point here is, is that our team might need something from me to further the movement of that goal. So be responsive in a timely manner, meet with your people that help you reach your biggest goals on a, on a consistent basis. Right? So meet with ’em every week we have a, a team huddle every week and then I meet one on one with everyone, at least once a week, Hey, what’s holding back this person. What can I get to you to move forward on this process? And sometimes these talented people need that information or guidance for just a few moments.
JW:
Sometimes it may take, you know, 30, 40 minutes. I don’t know, but wanna spend the adequate time necessary to move forward. And if I failed to respond timely, guess what happens? You got it, Lori, we get sidetracked. The people may even lose enthusiasm. Hey, if it’s not that important to him, why should I be sitting here working diligently to get this done? Right. And so, you know, enthusiasm to me means being enthusiastic in all aspects of life. Yes. You heard me say it before. I’ll say it again. I would rather calm down a fanatic than warm up a corpse, Lori. But anyway.
LF:
But it’s true.
JW:
Absolutely. Absolutely. So, so now, you know, I’m gonna say it like this, be enthusiastic in all parts of your life, but if you’re attending a funeral of a dear friend you, you can’t walk into the service when there is such a somber mood and, and have a big Cheshire cat smile on your face and be stepping it off, walking straight down to the casket and you know, hugging your dear friend and saying, Hey, it’s been great. That’s not what I’m talking about.
LF:
We call that reading the room.
JW:
Yes. Read the, thank you. Yes. Read the room. And you know, at the end of the day the point I’m making with all this is is B B just B involved B present, be alert B cognizant B responsive. That’s what this B’s about. In other words, it means purposeful thinking.
LF:
Oh, I love it. I think that’s so important. A for abundance and B for B, which leads us to D right? No, I mean, I’m kidding. Oh, I
JW:
Think we skipped. Yeah. See, it is Monday, folks. Okay.
LF:
A, B, C – we’re learning. It’s like going back to kindergarten, but now the final letter C stands for consistency. And I know you’ve heard that word before, but it’s a very, very important word. And we need to be reminded of, of the word consistency. Each day is unique in life. You may think that you’re living in the movie Groundhog day. We’ve all seen it. We love it. Who doesn’t love a good bill Murray movie, but in real life challenges come to us in all phases, in all types of circumstances. Think about the game plan you need to accomplish greatness, consistently plan your days instead of allowing the day to run you. And that is something that I have had to struggle and work really, really, really diligently on what outcomes do you want to experience and who do you wish to meet during your day?
LF:
Those are important things. And why are you committing your resources to a particular project or to a particular group of people? Consistency is the key ingredient in climbing the ladder of success. No one takes the elevator on the first day of their career to the ivory tower, corner office consistently execute on your plans every day, move forward. Even if it’s just a step or two. A lot of times we tell ourselves just the next step, one foot in front of the other, and that is progress. So if you’re moving forward one step at a time to achieving your goals, consistently review your activities, your comments, your thoughts, your inputs in life, to see if any of those are causing you to feel friction towards your important goals in life. Sometimes we get caught up in the noise. Sometimes we get caught up in the weeds of our own mind and the cobwebs.
LF:
And it’s great to take that one step at a time to reevaluate things so that you can consistently create and recreate every single day, the pathway to success. Sometimes the map on our vehicles, aren’t aware of the road closed ahead. What does the computer say? Make a U-turn Rero recalculating. She’s so annoying. Even when you change her voice to British. I tried that someone told me you do know that the Siri has different languages and different voice tones. It doesn’t matter. She’s still annoying when she’s telling you to take a U-turn in the middle of the highway.
JW:
I love the British one though. “Make a bloody left! Turn, bloat!” No, I’m just kidding.
LF:
So just aware, just because we hit a S in the route to success doesn’t mean that we stop. It just means that we recalculate or we reroute create another means of achieving the desired end. You planned back in January, just because it looks differently now in September doesn’t mean that it’s not attainable. It just looks a little bit different. It looks a little rough around the edges, or if you’re me a little afraid on the end or frazzled, if you will, but it’s still there. It’s still attainable. And you just have to be consistent.
JW:
Like a good pair of cutoff jea, shorts. When in the seventies were here, my sister would take leather and try to sew up the sides of ’em that were, you know, just ripped out and everything my parents go, you’re not wearing those. You’re not wearing those. Right. And, and so I’ll never forget, my sister said, but you know, what’s worn out is usually the most comfortable.
JW:
I never thought about that. But anyway, yeah. One thing too, about this consistent review of our actions, our thoughts and where we are in the process gosh, I got a good place for that. And I use my journal or I look back. So every week I look back at my entries and I go, Hmm. And then sometimes I look back for the month. So I’ll look for you know, when I have a weekend, I’ll look back for the month and say, do I see any themes coming out of this? And if I see themes, like you were talking about where my days are frazzled and I have two or three of those in a row, I go, Hey, wait a minute, gotta put the breaks on here and get back to my ABC. You know, I gotta think more abundantly and I’ve gotta be present, be active. But then that C means consistent. I’ve gotta be consistent in doing these steps or you have those frazzled days, man. And they happen to all of us, Lori, all of us get that problem, right?
LF:
Yes. Some more than others.
JW:
So Lori, you know, the reason most people will hear this simple method and not implement it. That’s right. It’s because it sounds too easy to be effective. I reassure you, this approach is the same as those used by great inventors and successful entrepreneurs. Like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Warren buffet, Elon Musk, just to name a few. They really do the same thing every day, small steps toward those big, hairy, audacious goals. And they reap millions upon millions of not just dollars, but friendships. And they have ideas that create more products. Those things, they may call it something different, but the planning review actions and repeated steps are the same results driven approach that we’re mentioning today. Remember that a is for abundance and your thinking, your contributions, your relationships, your investments, to your goals.
LF:
And that the B stands for being creative and taking action on all the facets of life needed to achieve growth in your life. Spirit, financial and family areas.
JW:
And the final letter C stands for cash flow. Oh no. Sorry. I’m sorry. Well, that is important too. But no, today it’s gonna stand up for consistency, Lori or consistently by applying a few simple disciplines each day to your goals and plans, you will find success. And Lori, and I know you will climb the ladder to the top.
LF:
So let’s end this episode with a few words of inspiration for our subscribers and listeners. We’re all about inspiration here at live life by design. I’m not certain who authored this poem, but it speaks volumes to me about pursuing my goals struggle today for a better tomorrow hard work pays. You should always know no matter how tough may seem to climb, keep moving, keep fighting one win at a time. Perseverance in patience, go a long way because for the sunrise, even the longest nights, make way.
JW:
Excuse me. I may have to have a tissue. Lori. That is awesome.
LF:
That’s a great way to start a Monday.
JW:
It really is what a great, great poem about the struggles of life. Here’s the good thing, folks, the challenge this week, Lori and I are very, very proud of all of you. That’s gonna take this challenge and take it earnestly to get those big hair audacious goals accomplished by December. So the challenge this weeks take a fresh look at your unaccomplished annual goals, select just three of them and apply the ABC method to getting back on track, go to our Facebook page for Live a Life By Design community and a link for that Facebook page is in your show notes.
